When setting it up you tell it which folder to monitor. In Lightroom you can select an Auto Import option. Create another folder on your hard drive for this backup. When you set up the tethered capture in Aperture you can have the images automatically backed up to another folder. This proves that it is possible to tether the D3100. The latest version of Apple's Aperture supports the D3100 for tethered capture. It is only useful for Mac users, as far as I know, because it uses Aperture as part of the capture path. So here is the long, complicated work around that I just found. End result is you can go thru all the steps and it will all look like it's working until you take a pic and it errors out trying to upload it to Lightroom. Second is I'm running the latest version of OSX which has been known to not play well with some older software. The plug-in that you used to be able to get from said website was last updated in 2009. First, the website that the YouTube link sends you to is no longer active. At this point I'm thinking it's because of the following factors. So I tried the method suggested in the link that posted and it didn't work. Man what a pain in the butt this whole things is!!! Why can't Nikon just work with Adobe so Lightroom can support the D3100? now maybe Adobe will get in gear and actually update Lightroom to support the D3100.Īlso with Aperture is possible make tethering like with Light Room. I wonder if they will or if that is another feature they have decided not to support on their "entry level" DSLR.Ĭheck this video for tethered capture with Nikon D3100 in Lightroom 3 I had read on a another site that Nikon hasn't released the driver for total control of the D3100. As of the latest release Lightroom doesn't have D3100 tethering. You can initiate focus and hit the shutter release from the computer but it doesn't give you real time viewing thru the lens prior to taking a picture. I found out the other day that Aperture 3 supports very limited tethering for the D3100. It only works in jpeg not with raw files-bummer Works completely with the D3100 and win 7 32 bit. To try it, launch Image Capture with your camera connected, then go to File > Take Picture.ĭon't know if this thread is dead or not, but I use free software, Camera Control 5.1 dev. but it's also free and the images pop into view immediately after taking it. OS X' built-in Image Capture app has the ability to remote control your camera through the USB port (and even do time lapse triggering), but it doesn't have live view. I know Nikon Camera Control Pro worked on our D5000 as you want it to work but not on the D3100. I tried tethering in lightroom 3,3 did not recognize camera. And use the usb for tethering (sending the pics to the computer). What could be done is have a live-view with the mini-hdmi and a hdmi interface on the computer. (Just as a note, I do not have Lightroom, yet Studiotether still recognized I had something and was able to take a snapshot.) Using Studioteather, I've been able to tether so close as to take a snapshot using my mouse as a remote and even a second or two later see the automatically uploaded image, but nothing that is "live". Sofortbild LOOKS very sleek, but just like JDT0505 says, it does not recognize the camera (and thank you for the link to thephotogeek). I just don't get a live, on the computer monitor scene. I've tried a couple of free tethering software packages. I haven't tried it with the 3100 yet though. Mostly I can't get the software to recognize the cameras. I've tried to use free tethering software before and haven't had a lot of luck. Thanks thats so cool Even a Linux software I did not know ! cool ! choosing-nikon-dslr-camera-tethered-shoo. NikonCoupleSoFlo edited this topic ages ago.Īre you wanting to record the images straight to the computer or are you simply wanting to plug in to use the monitor? I checked on the Nikon Camera Control Pro and unfortunately doesn't offer support for the D3100. I will check when I get home and let you know - or perhaps someone else knows for sure. I think you need software to tether? I can't remember if the LR3.3 Release Candidate has the tethering plugin for the D3100. I know it's posible from the hdmi wire but you have to have a hdmi port on your computer !įrom usb I dont think it's possible if you find out you can then let me know. Below you will find what comparisons that are available for you to choose from.My goal is to set up a live view on my computer of my camera's viewfinder which can then enable close ups and self-portraits while it's sitting on the tripod.ĭoes anyone have any hints? I'm using a Mac and have Snow Leopard. We provide a service where you easily can compare Nikon D5100 in a camera-vs-camera comparison. Compare Nikon D5100 against other cameras
